Reflection

I spotted this young woman seated near me in a local cafe. She had a look about her, an air I imagined Modigliani would have appreciated. This is my tribute to him (and her, I guess). Zoe at the Gap

My little black labrador retriever Zoe loves the water. It's great to watch her jump for joy the closer we get to water, any water. Exept the bathtub - go figure. Here she is at the Delaware Water Gap in New Jersey. The Construction Worker

It was the hottest day of the year so far. and I thought I was nuts for being out there painting in the heat. And as I set up my canvas to paint the empty street, I heard someone whistling what sounded like "I Love New York In June". I turned to see a construction worker dressed in jeans, boots, hardhart and, most surprisingly, a long sleeved shirt carrying his tools on his shoulder. Next time I want to complain about the heat in my apartment and my ineffective air conditioner I'll think of this guy and whistle. The View From My Balcony

Even from just two stories up, the world looks somehow different. Change your vantage point, and the everyday world becomes new. "5101" Oil on Canvas 20" x24" Copyright 2007 Franck Hodelin For information on purchasing this piece, please contact me at fhodelin@gmail.com

The Old Pepsico Sign

This New York City landmark sign for Pepsi Cola sits on the waterfront of Long Island City, Queens. Due to rapid development of the area, the sign remains but this particular view is vanishing. A series of hi-rise towers is going up in place of the buildings in the foreground, changing the face of the LIC forever. I've tried to capture the feeling evoked by the gritty industrial neighborhood as I remember it. "The Old Pepsico Sign". Walking with a Friend

Sometimes the best thing you can do is go for a nice long walk with your best friend. No conversation necessary, just enjoy each others company and be grateful for days like this. Long Island City Blues

It was what helicopter pilots call a "severe clear" day. Bright blue skies, smog free, and so clear you could see for miles. This is one of the best spots for viewing Manhattan from Queens, but it has a pretty cool view of its own from Manhattan. At The Velodrome

Spent the day at the Kissena Velodrome in Flushing, Queens. Hard to believe such a cool place remains relatively unknown to most New Yorkers. This is my impression of my afternoon at the Velodrome. Maybe it'll inspire you to go visit and support the cyclists. Or maybe to dust off your old Huffy, pack a lunch, and go for a nice long ride around town. Washington Square at Sunset

I was walking down Ffifth Avenue one Sunday afternoon, and was struck by the relative quiet and peace of a Manhattan street in the fading light of day. I made a quick sketch, went home, and this painting was the result. 16" x 20" Oil on Masonite Panel. For information on purchasing this painting, please contact me at fhodelin@gmail.com.
